Who We Are

Real Saguaro Transplanting Experience in Tucson, Arizona

520 Cactus Movers is a Tucson-based crew that moves, braces, removes, buys, and sells saguaro cacti and other native desert plants. Homeowners, pool builders, and landscapers across Southern Arizona call us when a saguaro is in the way of construction, leaning after a storm, or damaged and needs to come out safely.

We run our own flatbed truck, boom, and mini excavator, so a job doesn't wait on rented equipment. Every saguaro we transplant gets root-pruned, wrapped, and reoriented the same way it grew โ€” the difference between a cactus that survives the move and one that doesn't.

Our Process

How We Move a Saguaro Without Losing It

  1. 1

    Assess & Mark Orientation

We inspect the cactus, mark which side faced north, and plan the route before anything gets dug.

  2. 2

    Root-Prune, Wrap & Brace

The root ball is prepared, the trunk wrapped in burlap and padding, and the plant secured for the move.

  3. 3

    Relocate, Replant & Water-In

We reset the saguaro in its original orientation, backfill, stake it if needed, and water it in.

Kevin and his people transplanted a 16 foot specimen, seven armed cactus for us, and they did a marvelous job. Kevin is very easy to work with, and showed up on the promised day and time.

Kevin and his crew are amazing. They work hard and get the job done. I needed an Organ Pipe cactus removed and another cactus moved. The area where the cacti were removed from does not even look like there was anything there.

Questions

Saguaro & Cactus Moving FAQ

Cost depends on the saguaro's height, number of arms, and how far it travels. A small single-arm saguaro under 6 feet costs far less than a mature multi-arm specimen over 15 feet. We give free, no-obligation quotes after seeing photos or visiting the site.

Yes, when it is done correctly. We root-prune, wrap the trunk in burlap, keep the cactus oriented the same direction it grew, and give it time to callus before replanting. Properly transplanted saguaros routinely thrive for decades afterward.

Arizona's Native Plant Law protects saguaros and other protected native plants. Removing or moving one on private property generally requires a permit from the Arizona Department of Agriculture before work begins. We are licensed and insured and can walk you through what permitting applies to your job.

We have transplanted specimens over 16 feet tall with seven arms using our flatbed truck, boom, and excavator. Size, arm count, and site access all factor into what equipment a job needs.

Both. If you have a healthy saguaro or other cactus you no longer want on your property, we will evaluate it for purchase. We also sell established saguaros and cacti to homeowners and landscapers.

A damaged saguaro often needs to come out entirely, especially if the trunk is compromised. We handle emergency removals and can advise whether a damaged cactus is worth attempting to save or should be safely taken down.

Yes. A leaning or unstable saguaro does not always need to be removed. We assess the root ball and trunk and, where it makes sense, brace the cactus in place instead of relocating it.

We work throughout Tucson, Oro Valley, Marana, Vail, Sahuarita, Green Valley, and the Catalina Foothills.
